Jim Haskin, Head Varsity Wrestling Coach for Pope High has
announced the renaming of the Pope Jr. Classic in memory of Kimberly Andrews.
Kim was taken from us on June 12, 2002 in a tragic auto accident.
Kim was a rising senior at Pope High School where she was to be the Head Manager
for the varsity wrestling team. It would have been her 4th year as a wrestling
manager. Further, Kim was an aspiring teacher who was involved in the teacher
apprentice program offered by Pope. Kim was involved in the community through
her work with Habitat for Humanity, AIDS Walk and other worthy efforts. Kim also
loved sports where she was actively involved with competitive softball.
Kim loved the sport of wrestling, where she not only was very involved at the
high school level, but could frequently be found in the stands cheering on her
two brothers Josh and Tyler, who wrestle on the Jr. Greyhounds team. Also, Kim
put a lot of time every year into working at the Pope Jr. Classic Tournament,
where she could be found helping Bob Berg and Pat Mahnich with keeping the
brackets straight.
Finally, the Pope Jr. Wrestling Team has announced the establishment of a
scholarship in memory of Kimberly, to be awarded to a senior manager or wrestler
on the Pope High School team.
Our Kimberly, although gone from this world, will never be forgotten.
